Title: Sunrise
Year Created:
Medium: Acrylic
Surface: Canvas
Dimension: 11 X 14
Allow digital alterations?: Yes!

I went to the beach and took pictures of the sunrise on a beautiful mo<br>ing when I was agitated about hurricane Dorian hitting. This is what I ended up painting. Very different from my usual style. At first I really liked it, then when I looked at it after the hurricane and I was my usual calm self, I felt it was a disaster. I did the one with more orange in the bottom first and then changed it after the storm because I thought I should differentiate the earth from the sky. Now that I look at it again I'm thinking the first version is better.

My questions to you are: Is this a good piece of art or a piece of junk? It came out of me so easily.

Which version is better? Any thoughts on evaluating or improving this (if you think it has potential) are very welcome. Thank you for looking.

Re: Sunrise

I think if you made the land on the far left much much darker like in the photo, it would add the contrast needed to help your colors pop and increase the sense of dread. Also the loops of shore in the photo instead of a relatively sharp angle would be nice to incorporate. I very much like the idea of painting something inherently calming in an agitated manner, imparting a state of mind--something I may consider for myself in the future.
I do like the first one better. But i think the second version can work if you lengthen the dark clouds in upper left to go all the way across, or at least further. Or maybe just the darker land I mentioned.
