August Plant Parade

This month is Lets paint GREEN MONTH, and we will be concentrating on those all important greens which we can't avoid if we like to paint Florals.

MIXING GREENS and painting shades, tones and tints of GREEN is most important to a floral painter. A flower without green foliage, just looks bare doesn't it, even if it only has a single stalk showing in the painting - that stalk is probably many shades and tones of green. So this month our focus and challenge, is going to be on painting greens.....from the lightest brightest most yellow green to the darkest of dark green!
You can paint/draw using any painting OR drawing art medium, and your artwork can be any size.

Please don't post your paintings until "REVEAL DAY" which is the 25th August. But you can talk about mixing the color green, or discuss anything about your paintings at anytime, here in this Thread, before the 25th.
You can use any painting medium and any size, and you can paint and post, from 25th August - as many paintings as you would like too.....the more the merrier!

I've posted photos from my own garden, and you may use these to paint from OR use your own if you would like too....but don't forget the focus of your painting needs to be green foliage. You can add any color of flower you wish too as well.

Here's a link to mixing the colour green, which you may find helpful.
It's from the WC Watercolor Forum but could be applied to any painting medium;

Re: August Plant Parade

I tried for 2 hours to get the Uploader to load my pics.....finally it began working again.

Yayyyy, Success,...I've got them loaded! The Uploader was working long enough for me to load some photos for you. I had lots more, but thought it better to quit while it was still working!
Will give you an idea of the range of greens and shapes of foliage ... the various tones and tints of greens are endless.

Thanks everyone, and I'm glad you like my choice of theme for this month's Plant Parade.
It should be an interesting month as we all choose our greens!

Re: August Plant Parade

The only thing is I don't paint. I suppose I could draw using green ink pens...

Re: August Plant Parade

Yes of course ANY painting or drawing medium is perfectly fine.
I'm thinking of doing one in pastels and - if I get time - another in watercolours. I'd like to try out some of those combinations mentioned in the above link from the WC Forum.

I'm often so impatient to get it done, I often just grab my Sap Green instead of mixing my greens. But a really good dark green (nearly black) is Viridian and Alizarin Crimson. You can push it to a more red shade by using more crimson or to more green by more viridian. It makes a terrific dark. And I've used that one for many years.

I'd love to hear what other colors members use to make their greens?

Re: August Plant Parade

Foliage intrigues me, and these are some beautiful models, Vivian, thank you for hosting and for the photos.

I really liked my watercolors named Hooker's Green and Spring green along with Hunter's green and light green (that's what the tube called it, but it's a generic watercolor) for painting the lotus leaves and stems. I don't know much about the colors, really, but they are the ones I used and liked, mostly Hooker's and Spring, mixed with some yellows at times, reds at other times....

I'm so wanting to contribute, hoping I can this month. Beautiful subjects. I really like variegated and multi-colored leaves...glad one is in the models.

Blessings on your creativity.
