Re: August Challenge and Chat 2019

Beautiful paintings everyone. Kay the towels are gorgeous. At first glance I thought it was a photo. Christel I like your corrected versions. Very beautiful. Lil your jester is so nicely done. The colors are so bright and clean and the detail is right on.

Re: August Challenge and Chat 2019

I had to take Sammy into the vet. He caught a respiratory virus at the kennel. He has had the shots for kennel cough but I guess that's not a guarantee as like the human flu there are so many different mutations of viruses.

I was pretty ticked, this is supposed to be the best in the area and it is expensive but when I picked him up he had dog dirt all over him, his eyes were caked over and he was coughing. The girl thought it was funny that he had been sleeping so hard all day being too silly to realize something was wrong. I was furious!

The vet said he should be alright but it's going to take awhile and it's always a concern with an older dog to be sick like that.

The poor guy sounds so terrible, he coughed and wheezed all night long. I've been giving him frozen seedless watermelon that seems to help his throat.

Thanks Virginia and Floblue!
Virginia - so sorry to hear about your dog's flu. Hope he gets better soon. Kennels sound awful with that virus.

Re: August Challenge and Chat 2019

Thanks everyone!

I hope your poor dog is feeling better today, Virginia. The geriatric pets are highly susceptible to catching any bug.

Thanks, he's doing okay. The coughing and hacking is awful. I've found giving him frozen seedless watermelon seems to help his throat.

I've got a bit of a summer cold too and it's helping me as well.

Re: August Challenge and Chat 2019

Thanks, we were so worried about Sammy all weekend but he finally started perking up a bit this evening. That's a big relief.

I did the joker but haven't taken a photo yet!

Re: August Challenge and Chat 2019

Thank you, the poor guy had a rough day today but each day seems a tiny bit better. I spent half the day steam cleaning rugs. My husband for years has tried to convince to throw away this big steam cleaner contraption I've had for decades but it's so effective and easy to clean with and easy to clean when you're done. So every time I use it I get awfully smug that I didn't let him talk me into throwing it out.

This is my joker, it's 5x5 in a small sketchbook. I used Aqua Pen Graphix which are a watercolor felt tip pen. They're used mostly by illustrators, anime people and such. I had a gift card so I thought I'd try them out.

They got away from me. I used too much water I think, they run very easily and the paper wasn't thick enough so it buckled but for an experiment it wasn't too bad. I quite liked them.

The outline is micron ink pens.

Re: August Challenge and Chat 2019

Well I think he looks good...very lively.
In fact I like everyone’s work I have seen in this challenge. Such strong pieces, Kay, Lil, Christel! Doing a very good job.
This clown in particular seems like a great subject, almost gestural in his pose, and dramatic colour. Great subject.
Virginia, glad to hear Sammy is on the mend. And those old contraptions should be kept if they still work. They were built better than the new ones. I paid a small fortune for mine that conked out after 2 years. Mainly for pet accidents and occasional carpet as a whole. It didn’t get that much use. I don’t have a lot of carpet.
It sure does feel nice to be right sometimes. Lol

Virginia - great joker painting! Glad to hear Sammy is much better already.
One of our dogs, Spottie, had to have a shot against tick bite fever this week, but he's up and running around again.
