Re: Derwent Test

That's not a test, that's a great painting.
Do you think the pencils are *really* worth the money?
Or is it another example of clever marketing?
Are we so obsessed with lightfastness, that would pay *anything*
for something labeled as 100% lightfast?

Re: Derwent Test

Thanks so much Hips.
Well I think that they handle really well and yes, lightfastness is important. I show my work, enter juried shows and sell.
I think luminance is more expensive?

Re: Derwent Test

It seems that Luminance are more expensive. I will be waiting for reviews and comparison between Luminance and Lightfast. I also expect that the price will get down in the meantime.

Re: Derwent Test

The handling and color intensity reminds me of the Derwent Drawing line of pencils. Wonderful work as always, regardless of medium. Fun to see your work in colored pencils, your specific style always seems present in your works.

Re: Derwent Test

Excellent!

I’ve just got a couple of odd ones but really like them.

Have you used cps on Fisher 400/UArt sanded paper? I love the way that works and you can underpaint in watercolour/gouache to create colours to peep through

Re: Derwent Test

Hi there Delo my friend.....thanks.

Vivian: I hear the sanded papers are worth a try. All the rage seems to be pastelmat paper.

There are times I'll do a watercolor under-painting fix it, and then coat with Liquitex clear gesso. Then apply pencils. Thanks Viv.

Re: Derwent Test

I don't like the fuzzy papers ... not sure what pastelmat is like? looking at it just thicker pastel paper? it doesn't let me build enough layers and put light colours cleanly over darks. I'm not keen on either

I like cp on moleskine paper, it works well on that waxy surface though the amount of layers is more limited than with sanded paper. Using a battery eraser to draw back through works really well on this.

whereas this one is watercolour and cp on sanded paper, which makes the pencil almost like pastel in appearance

hope the diffwerence shows

any typos blame the kittens - 2 new lodgers only 13 weeks old and utterly gorgeous but they trample on the keyboard and chase the cursor - which is not helpful
