Happy Sunday,
I’m in the market for a neutral earth red to add to my watercolor palette. So far, I’ve come across the three I referred to in the title, English, Venitian and Indian Red. Most companies typically only have one of the three colors in their product line, making me
think the names are interterchangable. The descriptions and photos on their sites are no help at all because they all look and sound alike. So if anyone can clear this up I’d be grateful. ☺️ I’d love to see swatches if you have any.
Thanks

Boy and Dog in a JohnnypumpNovember 24, 2019 at 1:39 pm #911128At the bottom of this page it touches upon the difference between these 3:

As always, best to see a real color sample in-person if possible. BTW, these earth reds are red enough to work and look much like a ‘real’ red in some color schemes…I guess we all have different ideas of what ‘neutral’ means.

Another Handprint site that discusses these earth reds is:
https://www.handprint.com/HP/WCL/watere.htmlBasically, all are forms of PR101, Synthetic Red Iron Oxide.
The names used compared with the Handprint site may be of help,
but a paint chart would certainly be better.Good luck.

As always, the same color can vary greatly among brands…especially earth colors.
