Re: Paint Together --- All Welcome

I think following the path of kevin's xerox copy is the way to go for me on this one as jen said the angle is tricky , added some dark to gather better form but trying not to swamp the face straight of , alot of stuff going on in this face makes choosing your pallette trial and error

Great drawing Jen! Your values are really good in this and you definitely got the angle! Good job!! When you go to do your pastel, my only suggestion would be to "puff up" his hat more, it looks a little scrunched down on his head.

Re: Paint Together --- All Welcome

you guys are doing great jobs! Leigh of course yours looked like a finished piece in the first shot, but then you added more colors and they are wonderful. Too bad no one know what SSR means.
and well, then Jean, you caught him too! I think you made his lips too big. That might help his expression.
Jen, you have to give him a bigger brain case! I think it will improve vastly if you get the basic head shape right first.

Trevor are you still with the acrylic's , this isnt far away in shape , chin needs to be split into three levels with different values , shape the cap flatter on top
and stick a dark band in the centre to seperate to the peak.take the ears in a tad as they are a bit big easy fix , so skintones dont really come into this yet so laugh in the face of muddy

Re: Paint Together --- All Welcome

Everyone is doing so well. I am enjoying all your posts as well as studying your paintings and drawings.

Below is my rather messy sketch using a mech. pencil which has been lightened with more contrast for better viewing. I also lightened the reference grayscale photo so I could see his face shapes better. Definitely open to critiques to improve it before transferring the sketch to watercolor paper.

Thanks you all

Re: Paint Together --- All Welcome

nice sketch, Ann, not messy at all.
ok, ok, I'll scan what I've done.

I don't know how come my pencil sketch scanned like this, but since it looks cool, I'm leaving it this way.. My painting is almost done too.

Re: Paint Together --- All Welcome

Mimi great sketch watercolour i think is the the most differcult thing for me , i gett really wrapped up in detail and it always ends up with no life in it

Good stuff jen you improved the shape he now has brains as mimi puts it next examine the shape and size of both ears then we need to address the lower chin and lips area , dont be afraid to adjust our eyes lie to us all the time , looking forward to an update

my update today , it dried overnight so i set about adjusting value's , i wonder if this painting we have appeal when finished it needs some drama its a bit blah

i pretty much find what looks finished never is
