My goodness you guys are fast!
Nice job Jean, I really like his hat.
Trever you got him very well too. I don't think gettting the angle of looking up at him is easy. Jen

Re: Paint Together --- All Welcome

Thanks Mimi - I kind of liked the dark bg in the photo, so thought I'd stick with it.

Ann - I noticed that the eyes were a bit out of alignment too, so I've adjusted it some. Thanks though for your comment - all are appreciated!

Fleffyjen - Thank you! Look forward to seeing how that works for ya! If it does, I have plenty to reuse and will certainly try your technique! .

Trevor - Good start! Definitely agree with Mimi on needing some more contrast. Great job on those ears of his - kind of reminds me of Prince Charles! Keep at it, and I'm sure you'll end up with a great painting!

Jen - Thank you!! Anxiously awaiting yours!!

Re: Paint Together --- All Welcome

I guess I learned a bit more about skin tones, and this is probably one of the first portraits I've done that I paid more attention (in the beginning) to the placement & size of the eyes, nose, and mouth in relation to eachother and the EARS! OMG... "what big ears you have"! lol... oh, and go easy on the blues!

Thanks! This was fun! What's up next???? Different references to vote on, or just start on another of what we had for this?

Re: Paint Together --- All Welcome

Well I tried sketching him tonight. He has an interesting face and I don't think I have quite got the angle but I will have a go in pastels later. I used Kevin's black and white copy to just see the shapes. This is done on hot press paper 9 x 12 with graphite pancils. CC's appreciated, Jen

Re: Paint Together --- All Welcome

Jen you have a good likeness , working from kevin's xerox copy is the right approach the angle is a tough cookie , the nose and chin areas are key to getting that angle , there are some crisp lines to the clothing trick is identify the very dark edges you will find they are quite pronouned ,so i am now looking forward to your pastel to see what you learnt from your drawing
