Re: Different Strokes (a forum project): June 2010

Thank you for hosting this month’s project, Maureen.

I cropped it and bought a new stretched canvas, size 50cm x 20cm.
Please let me know if the cropping is not working, thank you everyone

Thank you for looking.

Re: Different Strokes (a forum project): June 2010

Christine, I love the texture you used there! It makes for a very exciting painting!

Dewi...Great crop! It's a completely different part of the painting than what I saw, but it's lovely! It makes me look at the scene completely anew.

Here's my take: This is probably the busiest painting I've attempted so far. I loved the whole scene, though, so I couldn't crop much out. It's 12x12 in on Strathmore Acrylic paper. Any C&C are welcome.

Hi Christine - love your painting - very expressive and dramatic. Love the textures, colours and the brushwork.

Dewi - such a sweet painting - really beautiful - stunning arrangement of pattern elements and composition.

Hi Erica - I really love the restircted colour pallet and the dramatic values. Remindes me of Carrivaggio.

Hi EP - I like the way you simplified and your use of line.

Hey treavor - I really like the way you emphasized the use of the complementary colours red and green.

Re: Different Strokes (a forum project): June 2010

OK - here is my painting - I decided to put in another mango instead of the black bottle - It is a 16" x 16" painting on canvas sheet with student grade acrylics Rotecht - using the colours Primary magenta. Primary yellow and Primary cyan.

Thanks for looking, Judith

Re: Different Strokes (a forum project): June 2010

Hi all - wonderful work that is done here. I will be back to comment at another time, but I wanted to upload what I did for this challenge. Like Dewi, I cropped the image down (quite small) and this is done as more of an abstract. I hope to go back, when I have a bit more time, and do the entire image - it's too good to pass up!

Acrylic, 9x12, titled "The Cherry"

Re: Different Strokes (a forum project): June 2010

Hi,

Sorry I'm late, well here's my effort it's not quite finished. Its painted on a small canvas board 8 x 10 I think. The photo's not so great (Any advice on the camera end might help as well), I seemed too loose some of the colours. Still let me know what you think, I think I'll try and re-paint this and see if I can get better finsih the second time around.

Thanks, Colin

Hi.I am Sue and I finally picked up a brush asI loved this still life and haven't done one in years. I was glad to see everyone changed it to their style.
I hope I am successful at uploading it.

Sharpened a little.

Re: Different Strokes (a forum project): June 2010

Dewi - I love that crop and the beautiful pattern on the tablcloth, you are much braver than me. I avoided it all together
Erica - I love the drama in yours and the brass bowl is beautifully captured as are those lovely glossy cherries. Yummo
E.P. - I love the way you get to the bone of things and such strong beautiful colours.
Judith - this is such a bright cheerful take on the reference, very nice.
Nancie - what beautiful patterns and colours. Love it.
Colin - Great crop and those cherries look terrific.
Sue - Love what you have done, is that blurred effect due to the photo or is that how you painted it. Anyway it is beautiful
Kathie - That bowl is awesome as is that beautiful luscious mango. I love the texture of the paint, gorgeous work.

I spent another couple of hours on mine just fiddling and not achieving anything much. The fruit in the bowl is a litte better defined and the photo is a better one than the first. I think I stopped in time. The base of the bowl is bothering now I look at it on screen but I am calling it done
