Arrow Name that Portrait! January 2006

We're back with a new round of this game for the New Year!

Can you identify the artist of the painting below?

You don't have to know art history to play. If you can use a search engine to track clues, you can do well at this game (that's how I play!).

If you name the artist, you will have the honor of posting the next mystery portrait. If you are sure of your answer, feel free to post the next painting right away.

BUT - please rename your image. Players will right click on the image to find what you have named it, so don't give any clues away.

Good luck!

Here is a link that will help you to upload an image:

Nancy (NDee) won the last round of last month's game, so she will be posting the next image.

Stay tuned!

Re: Name that Portrait! January 2006

Can I just endorse Nancy's and Eileen's comments at the end of the December thread - this is a truly wonderful exercise for learning about all sort of portrait artists who did not paint the portrait you're trying to track down! If you want the stimulation of looking at lots of different portraits to help with developing your own skills in portraiture this is the thread for you.

Looking forward to the first 'name that portrait' of 2006 from Nancy - and well done on getting that one it was really difficult!

And I wonder where the chaps have got to............

I apologize in advance for any x-rated work by this artist you may encounter in your search. That was not my intent in choosing this artist's work!

What a tease! Fancy leaving that 'signature' in but making it just not quite readable when I download and sharpen edges! Except I think I might be able to read 1915 - which sort of seems to fit with the dress...........

I'll save everybody's blushes

It's Egon Schiele

Next one - and a work on paper. I'm sorry but I've had to crop the bottom off to remove the signature.........

And a Happy New Year to you too! Mine was a lot better than Christmas which was dire due to flu as I was very nearly recovered - I woke up this morning feeling much more like normal.

Yay Katherine! Darn, and I thought that was going to be a hard one. I was going to cut off the feet too, to hide the signature but her feet were so cute! And the sig was hard to read. It's a sad story that they died so young.

Looks like an intaglio print by one of the impressionists but that's as close as I can get.

Lol, frustrating when that happens isn't it? I have yet to be able to get one that way, though I sure have tried!

My thoughts exactly, Nancy.
