This is my another attempt on Hassan in colored pencils. C&C are always welcome. I dont use graph or any measuring scale, I just look and draw. So I am afraid about likeness.

Looks like this guy is the man if the hour!

Here is my version, which is graphite and pastel, done in my sketchbook- about 8x11 inches. I worked on him for about an hour and a half.
C&C welcome and appreciated.

Here's a closeup:

Nice ones added!!!!!

Some progress. Been slow going as the oil is a bit too dry seeming. Blocking in tones and light and shadow so far.

Lori and Deidre - wonderful! I have started on this guy and all those wrinkles are driving me crazy.
Jocelyn - wonderful, too! Can't wait to see the finished product.

Re: Paint/draw from the same reference - August 2005

Thanks Sandra!
I have made a mistake choosing the same materials as I used for the old man...for the young girl. Didn't work at all well! For a start there's a very limited pallette and they don't mix very well....plus the paper saps the colour. But, what the heck...I spent time doing it...I may as well show you!

Here is my entry. Spent way too much time on this one, but it was fun. Only wish the likness was better. I can keep on going with this one, but Im anxious to put it down and start something new. I use Painter IX, and Photoshop, this is my digital painting.

Re: Paint/draw from the same reference - August 2005

Wow- there is some really great art happening here! I have been so busy creating, I haven't been on the computer much, but will look through all of the work more carefully tomorrow so that I can comment on everyone's work.

This was an experiment. I laid down watercolor first- very loose, general and bold, and then I went back in with water-soluble oil pastels, conte crayon and conte pencil and basically drew over the watercolor base. Parts of it work better than others, and there was one moment where it was a perfct balance and I loved it, but kept working and now feel like the conte might be a bit too overworked or heavy. I like the idea of trying this again.

Let me know what you all think- good or bad!
