Re: The Portrait Gallery, June 2005

Well, what a fantastic thread full of great portraits yet again this month.
After being a bit lazy with my painting so far this month, it just took a browse thru WC! to get back into it.. lol !

Must say the one that caught my eye was Maria's old lady... what superb colours!!!!!! LOVE IT!!! I am such a fan of bright colours..woohoooo <-- for everyones work cos its too hot to sit and type much today!

Im still plodding along with my two ladies, but have only done a bit more on the Afghan girl who has this massive head piece of silver/jewels, which I havent started on yet. Did a little on the face trying to get an idea of what I am doing... fun fun fun..

Keep up the great work everyone and if its at hot where you are as it is here .......... STAY COOL !!

Sally Ann, it's great to see you posting again. Your Afghan girl is coming along well, and I can't wait to see all of the jewels etc. that you are going to add. This is a fascinating Portrait.

Re: The Portrait Gallery, June 2005

Hello. I haven't posted anything here for ages but recently took a class and seem to be making some progress. My drawings are strarting to look a little like the actual people but most of the time they don't. which is okay as long as you don't know them! So, I hope I'm posting the image correctly. And I do like the activity of drawing and fine faces very interesting to draw. I hope the image shows. Thanks.

Re: The Portrait Gallery, June 2005

Here's the study I was working on with a few more updates. Think it's time to call it a day as any more messing around will ruin it. I liked the rough quality of the first draft and it's starting to disappear with over-enthusiastic use of peanuts, fingers and the like.

Pastel on ivory Canson Mi Teintes - smooth side. About 3/4 of a sheet worth. Study for a portrait that, in reality, is supposed to be completely different.

I'm always happy to take c&c. I may plop this in the pastels forum too as I'm always criticizing other people's work, but haven't posted much.

Simon

MORPH46 -- I like your sketch, and particularly love the eyes -- you have rendered those very nicely indeed. Welcome back, and I hope we see a lot more of your Portraits.

SIMON -- Your little boy is gorgeous -- especially love his hair. I would love to see some colour on the bottom lefthand corner though. It would look nicer to have it fading away in blue, in preference to leaving a stark white (or light) finish. Just my feeling. The little boy is good enough to cuddle.

Val,

Thank you. You are right about that bottom left hand corner. It's a distraction and it throws the rest of the composition out of balance.

Your Portrait turned out great Maria. I do like the dark eyes -- very intense and a nice focal point to the Portrait.

Re: The Portrait Gallery, June 2005

Thank you Val and Donald for you kind comments.

I have only a few others to share at the present time. Both of these are in conte which I had not known about until the portrait course brought it to my attention. Otherwise, I have only used prencils before. I am a beginner drawing person as I'm sure you can tell. It is enjoyable however and I'm going to keep trying to find time for it.

Morph, these are really great. I love both of them, and I hope you keep posting any new ones as you finish them, as they are a real delight to see.

Re: The Portrait Gallery, June 2005

Thanks again Val.

There are a two others that I have done that are in the student show right now and I have no photo of them to scan. Once I get them back I'll post them also. These drawings where all done from a model and each took about 45 minutes to do. Sometimes it seems that nothing works out at all and then the next week everything flows easily.
