Between Poses

This is oil on a 12x16" wood panel. Created for our art groups February gallery exhibit. Started from life, finished from ref photo. I took this photo of our model while she was on break when she was in a more natural uninhibited pose. I did not have time to varnish it so there are some dull and glossy patches. C&C always appreciated. Thank you for looking.

Re: Between Poses

Very good work, Bob. Catching people in non-posed situations brings out a truer value which is much more interesting. There is a Chinese watercolorist (can't remember his name) who does outstanding non-posed paintings. I read he uses a camera to capture subjects quite a distance from him but with a close up lens. Looks like you have stumbled on this process too. Keep going and post often.
CxC always welcome

Re: Between Poses

This is really well done, Bob!
I, too, am in love with the un-posed pose! I often start from life and finish with photos.
The combination of life drawing sessions and my camera to take candid shots works well for me.

Re: Between Poses

Loretta: Thank you. Not sure who that Chinese painter is but I have watched some youtube videos that may be the person you were mentioning. His work is outstanding. Here is a link to one of his videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXNdGuZ6ggI

Bethany: Thank you. The un-posed posed is so much more interesting.
