Isn’t it a great thread Kay, there are no hard and fast rules, you can post photos of yourself for others to use or you can draw from other peoples photos, most people do both.
It doesn’t matter if you have never drawn a portrait before it’s just a great opportunity to learn.
People are always looking for new references.

Sounds like a win-win situation, Dave. So this is me who take the worst photos imaginable in the first one. Second one is Jeanne, a Las Vegas saleslady, who posed for me, but I've been too chicken to try either
