Re: P.A.L. (Paint-a-Long): Edges, lost and found, hard and soft....

Well, in spite of my atrocious attempts at painting the lovely reference pic, I did learn a lot about edges- thanks for the lesson. Why are apples so hard to paint!? Are they the hardest fruit?

Re: P.A.L. (Paint-a-Long): Edges, lost and found, hard and soft....

Maureen --

Thank you for this thread. I had an AHA! moment when I looked through it. I looked back on all of my completed paintings and realized that I virtually always only use hard edges. There was one painting where I used quite a few lost edges and that painting has always been my favorite. There has to be a correlation!

I haven't been painting lately, but when I get back into it I will be sure to vary the edge treatments -- big time. Thanks again.

Maureen, Here's my painting from before but toned down and darks added as you pointed out to me when I first added my painting. I have rated this thread excellent because I think it's great. Thank you for hosting.

These P.A.L.s have been so very helpful and a lot of fun. I can't help but hope they will continue. Any plans for another one?

Maureen.....Would again like to thank you for this wonderful thread! I have learned so much, you are a wonderful teacher!

I'm glad you agree to do another PAL. My suggestion is Seascapes. Any body of water really, though the ocean holds a special place in my heart and mind. I really struggle with water and I imagine you could help with that!

Seascapes sound good to me. I would like that very much. Another idea for a future PAL would be another still life, perhaps concentrating on ways to add pizzazz to the subject matter.

Never too late to join in... water is cool...tho' I surely could use one so I could figure out how to paint the bristles on my daughter's pigs...sigh! I have tried and tried, and it is such a bust... he looks ok, when I just have the 'skin' but when I try adding bristles...oh my...he looks much more like a pig shaped porcupine...sigh. Wanted to try the cats too...but after the mess with the pigs, I went to a landscape, just to unwind... Can't wait to see where we go next!

Re: P.A.L. (Paint-a-Long): Edges, lost and found, hard and soft....

Meryl - a lovely, fresh, still life - paint more, you're good at 'em! Nice job with the leaves too

Hopen - thank you for joining us Nice to see two stages of this too - I'm not sure the order of them, but I like the colours of the apples in the first and the softer modelling of the pot in the second! I think you've done well and hope you will join us in another P.A.L.

Carol - glad to see you here! (We all must do different things as the creative urge urges us to!!!) ... so pleased this has been of benefit to you, even without painting

Lil - are you happier with this now? The two photos look quite different! Very smooth apples and good drama in the tone work .... I think this is a good, solid piece of work - I like it1

April - I know you've been busy - but thanks for following it

Sandra - ncgirl - you can still paint along if you want to - though the rest of us done, the thread is still active as long as anyone wants to work from it
When I start the next one, will PM all in this thread so you won't miss out!

As to the next one, you do mean to test me don't you! I'm not a seascape painter but we can give it a try.
Meanwhile, if you're really stuck, check the Information Kiosk > Classroom Index > Seascapes by MartyC.
Similarly Susan, Chammi did a Classroom on fur and feathers some time ago - the thread is in the Classroom Index too - might help.

We can certainly do SL again Judy - and consider ways of adding pizzazz .... (I'd find that much easier than the seascape, but perhaps better to have a little space between Still Life works)

OK Peeps, will find my thinking cap and see what I can come up with
