Re: Portrait Gallery - August 2012

A girl, oil on masonite 21cm*29.5cm (A4)

I started with black and white and when finished I painted with very thin layers the skin tone and hair. Nice experiment but way too much time consuming for me.

This one has to be finished before the end of September because of an exhibition (my first one!) I'm participating in.

CC's more than welcome!

Re: Portrait Gallery - August 2012

I just finished this as a gift from myself to the parents of a local girl who is 9 years old and has been battling a brain tumor and receiving chemo. Its stipple pen and ink and about 13" x 16"

Re: Portrait Gallery - August 2012

great thread - so much quality
Raeburn - fantastic as usual - I wish I could paint so freely
Larubia - recognise your work anywhere - it's a gift to have a unique style
Todd - so atmospheric, captured perfectly by the grainy rendering
And Clutterbilly - great detail for the size. I too use a monochrome underpainting - slow, but it works
Here's one I finished last week

Oil on canvas 60x90 cms
Time lapse film of its construction on YouTube http://youtu.be/j9JlM4cVmPQ
C&Cs welcome

Great work nexussix. I'm planning to try large scale photorealism in the fall so I've been studying your videos closely.

Grandma

Stunning work this month! Wow...

I've been working on this one finally! I had posted a question with the reference photo on here in April of LAST year! I've just now felt inspired to do something with it. It's taken from a black & white photo, so I'm playing a bit with the colors...

Soft pastels on paper - 18 x 24

And the reference photo:

I need to raise her forehead a bit more, and I'm thinking of taking the dress back to black, rather than this blue, but not sure... any suggestions would be welcome!

Thanks!!

Jean, maybe a navy blue if you don't want the light blue. To me it would depend on the rest of the colors. Are you keeping the background light like you have it now? If so, I would keep the light blue, but if you are planning on a darker background, then darker navy.

Re: Portrait Gallery - August 2012

I am completely gobsmacked by the talent here. And I must get to that youtube video to watch nex.

Here's a recent one of mine, oil on canvas, 20x16 and I've called it "Raven". I'm still poking at it here and there. Any C&C would be greatly appreciated.
