Sunlight on Santa Maria

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Title: Sunlight on Santa Maria
Year Created:
Medium: Pastel
Surface: Watercolor Paper
Dimension: 11 x 7
Allow digital alterations?: Yes!

MY COMMENTS:
I wanted to capture the light on the buildings of Santa Maria della Salute in Venice.I haven't done a landscape in a while, and I wanted to capture the essence without too much detail. A little of the sides got cut off when I took the photo.
MY QUESTIONS FOR THE GROUP:
Any comments will be greatly appreciated.I just entered this online in the Pastel Competition.

I just love it. You might possibly get an improvement by some lightening strokes in the water. There's a lot of medium gray in the water which has arguably pushed it too much towards dullness. But it's reaaaaaly cool.

Re: Sunlight on Santa Maria

Lovely painting although posted here a little to large for me to see without scrolling. None the less I think it is very expressive. My only concern is that there should be a few more hints of white as accents - after all the name of the painting is 'sunlight on .....' At the moment although the light is lovely parts of the painting are a little flat

Re: Sunlight on Santa Maria

Were this mine, I'd give it a focal point by adding a few harder edges...perhaps the dome off to the right?

Be careful with the streaks on the water. If you want a gently flowing water, the streaks must be horizontal and not curved.

Beautiful color you've used here!

Redo of Sunlight on Santa Maria

MY IMAGE(S):

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Title: Redo of Sunlight on Santa Maria
Year Created:
Medium: Pastel
Surface: Watercolor Paper
Dimension: 7 x 11
Allow digital alterations?: Yes!

MY COMMENTS:
This is my correction on this piece. For some reason I couldn't insert this into "reply" to the thread as one of the instructors suggested...wouldn't go through.

MY QUESTIONS FOR THE GROUP:
I just want to know if my corrections made this "pop " better.Any other suggestions?I reworked the water, and I added more contrast on the buildings as well as some sharpness the right dome.
Thank you for all your instruction!

Re: Redo of Sunlight on Santa Maria

I think the image posted is just to large for me to get the real Impact of what youve done. I like it and I like the use of your color in it, but again, a smaller photo would probably be much easier to make sense of.
