#2 finished..well..signed atleast

2nd painting here. 8x16" Signed it but still see a couple of fixes that need to be made. She needs a chin tuck (well my painting anyway, not her in real life) and some highlights that wrap around it a bit. A soft highlight in the cheek area maybe also. The "wild" hairs need softened a bit possibly... I like them when i look at them alone, but when I look at the face, and they are in my periphrial vision they seem a bit harsh and detract from the face. I think this looks a bit better on the puter screen than in real life. The camera picked up some of the red shadings in the cheeks that the naked eye couldnt (may be the flash on camera is better lighting than my art room) also it blurred a tiny bit which made some rough spots in the face look a lot smoother and better.

Pleased with this one.. Those that posted on my 1st painting pat yourself on the back, I'd probably only be half way done with this had ya not pumped me up. Probably spent 3-4 hours the last 3 days working on this. Probbaly 15-20 hours logged on this total... much quicker than last one, but less complicated also.

All CC welcome and greatly appreciated. Cant learn if your're never shown what is wrong ;-)

This is wonderful! Did you use a ref pic or imagination or a real model?

Re: #2 finished..well..signed atleast

Super!
Love the reflected light under her chin - though the chin probably does seem just a little on the large size - but still extremely well-observed and painted.
Also like the hair - the wild bits don't worry me at all!
I think I like the crop better than the whole painting, although the cloak/blanket is very well painted too - but the gorgeous red (for me) takes the eye away from the face, and that's where the attention wants to be - again, for me!
- clappies for you!

Re: #2 finished..well..signed atleast

Thanks all. Ref pic is below. Sorry for corny copyright thing, pic is from a shoot and and we agreed not to share images from it.

The more I look at it the more the chin bugs me, gonna try to trim than and the neck area down. The hair looks fine on here but is more stark in person. I'd like to make it look more like this image.

Mum I like the crop also. I like the composition of the whole peice but the face does get a bit lost, may add a few stronger highlights in. Also the colors in general are a bit more clean in the real thing as there is some flash back on the canvas from my camera flash.

I think I will redo thi sat some point down the road when i am more comfortable in loosening up and addingmore complexity to the shadings in the face.

Re: #2 finished..well..signed atleast

updated and done....

Chin reduced and some hair highlights added.

Is there any type glaze, fixant whatever that should be applied after one is done?

Photo taken at an angle to reduce glare, so its a bit distorted.

Thanks,
Scott

I admire anyone who is good with portraiture or people in any form. I can draw them but put a brush in my hand and I can make them look about a silly as can be.

Nicely done, well executed. Congrats.
