I have been plugging away. It is emerging. Chardinesque? Not yet. May never get there. Colin-messque, definitely.

Re: September 2019 Different Strokes Challenge

I finished mine last night. I'll post a foto of my SL when I post my ptg and not before. I don't want anybody to usurp my fantastic answer to the challenge.

I've been giving a lot of thought to Colin's whimsical quartet. So far I found a dead yellowish CATerpillar. My neighbor has a CATerpiller tractor but its green. I have an old Fender guitar that has some chrome onit.
Regard wet sheep, the closest I can come to is an old sheepskin jacket that I store in my sleeping bag. I can always soak it in water, wash it (!) or wait for the next hurricane.
Not sure the fruit flies are mating, but they could very well be included with my pureed prune juice. The last one was the real challenge. I finally cranked up my laptop and started Jamming with the rock group BREAD on their ht
"Make It With You." Close enough Colin?

"Dead Ginger Cat on a Chrome Fender"
"Wet Sheep in a Cloth Bag"
"Fruit Flies Mating in a Blender"
"Jam on Bread on iPad"

Jim I can't be the arbiter---I'll defer to Fede. Glad you tackled the challenge.

But fruit flies must be mating right now as the population explosion in our kitchen attests. My dear wife has taken to hiding the fruit bowl in a drawer. "Where are the apples? With the underwear or the Scotch tape?"

I agree with the blow flies... we are just into spring, and the first warm / hot day , in one came, and he was the size of a bumblebee... Swat!

I am almost done with my challenge. I bet we all have completely different choices of quartets.... it will be fun to see.

Cheers
Merri

Re: September 2019 Different Strokes Challenge

lol Colin. Usually my apple cider vinegar trap works, just put it in a jar with plastic wrap over it and poke a few small holes. But they're not going for it this year. I broke down and bought the sticky tape that you hang up, it's near my kitchen sink and I haven't tangled myself in it yet. It is catching fruit flies though, and few houseflies.

Blow flies? The size of a bumble bee? Do they bite?

Apple cider vinegar? That should get 'em. They were really going after our glasses of red wine the other night. The fruit flies love a big Italian red.

Merri do these blow flies bite, sting or just carry off infants and small pets?

Re: September 2019 Different Strokes Challenge

Blow flies don't bite. But they are aware that you are chasing to harm them, so they dive bomb at you.

"Measuring 9 to 22 mm in length, "

Or they lose their maggots when you swat so either way, they are disgusting, or rather you are left with a disgusting mess.

But we do have big flies that bite.. They are found by the sea side in dunes.
We call them March flies... nasty things.

"March flies are found throughout Australia. Feeding and diet As with most biting flies, it is only the female march flies that bite as they need blood to produce the next generation."

Try rereading them with a glass of wine.

My wife looked at my Work in Progress today and said "That's different. I'm not sure what you're trying to say."

Re: September 2019 Different Strokes Challenge

Colin I'm not going to be able to finish your quartet. Seems as though the caterpillar wasn't dead. This afternoon it morphed into a huge ghostly white moth and escaped through the dog door only to be snatched up by what appeared to be a huge bat.
