Re: The Spotlight - June 2019 - Finale

I did not mean you used watercolors in this one, I just remember you also joined the watercolor challenge with an extraordinary well done portrait

But on the other side I recommend to use underpaintings in pastels. They can add so much richness and interest, especially underpaintings in complementary colors.
You should really try it. There was a good spotlight about it some time ago.

Esther

Thanks Esther. Sorry about my confusion. I will have to look up that Spotlight on underpainting. Do I just search the thread?

Here is a link to that earlier Spotlight on Underpainting:

http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/show....php?t=1029802

It also includes a link to an even earlier Spotlight on Underpainting.

The earlier Spotlights up to Feb 2016 (and other great threads) can be found in the Soft Pastel Learning Center here:

Sanlynn, your sunset is lovely!

Thanks to all of you who complimented my iris, Jo, Jay and Esther. Jay, we certainly did have fun!

Don, thanks so much for the link on underpainting. It has saved me a lot of time searching. I had a quick look and was amazed at the participation. I will have a look at the learning centre when I have more time, can't wait.
Thanks Blayne for your comment. Your iris is lovely as well.

Re: The Spotlight - June 2019 - Finale

Hi,
For some strange reason, I checked in here after many years, as I haven't been painting. I started metalsmithing and pottery and seemed to be better at them! You helped me so much when I was here, I can never thank you enough. Are you going to have a group elsewhere, like on Facebook, or maybe you do?
Again, thank you for your selfless help and knowledge,
Warmly,
Nancy aka Adigal

Re: The Spotlight - June 2019 - Finale

Nancy,

Thanks for your kind words! I am glad the Spotlight has been helpful to many folks. I don't have any facebook groups or anything, but I do plan on doing some art how-to videos on YouTube. It may be a while though! And they will probably be done with oil paints, although I will cover many of the basics that are used with any medium. Long ago, when I was in college, I began to watch "The Magic of Oil Painting" with Bill Alexander (the forerunner to Bob Ross's TV show). I always thought it would be cool to do videos like that. Now, with YouTube and the internet, I can do it! It may not be Magic when I do it, but I'm going to give it a try!

And, of course, I'm still a guide here in the pastel forum!

Don

Don, I started using pastels in 2010, I believe a year after you took over as Guide. The lessons you posted every month helped me greatly to become a better artist. I took all of the feedback given and applied them each month to my work. Although I stopped painting for a long time, I never stopped checking out the sight every month in hopes that I would begin again. Thank you so much for all your lessons. The education I got from this site is, in fact, priceless to me!!

Thanks, Jay - and everyone who has participated in the Spotlight over the years. It has been a pleasure to have been the host of this thread for all of these years! Thank you all!
