Re: WOYE (What's On Your Easel) 2019

Cooked in the microwave? Storing paintings there? Sheila, please explain!

But don't feel bad -- a curator recently found a piece of a grasshopper in a Van Gogh!

I'm starting to wonder if I have ADHD. When I try to do more than one thing at a time things get very messed up.

I live in world's smallest apartment and there was damage to the place in January due to a burst pipe. As a result I'm half packed up because I thought the property management were going to "make me whole" but they are shirking. I had decided to leave things partially packed as I look for a place to move to. So this tiny apartment is totally disorganized and, add 3 cats and a dog to further create chaos.

Cats are adept at walking through wet paint so I keep all my canvases being worked on smallish so I can hide them in the microwave until dry. I had one standing against the side and didn't see it before I had the popcorn popping and stinking to holy hell.

The piece also had metal paint on it to further the hell. It was less then 13 seconds but I burned fingers trying to get that painting out, before it totally caught on fire. I'll eventually do a bigger piece like it- glad I have photos on here. My life is no where near as exciting as it might sound! (I have also seen small bugs in my apartment but they are not in my art, I hope. I am terrified of bugs.)

Ah! Now I understand. Thanks for clarifying.

I work in the dining half of our combined living room and dining room. Laura is very nice about having art stuff all over the place. Thank goodness!

Hi to all your cats and to your dog!

What's around my easel is more interesting...

Laura and I are at Angel Creek Campground, near Wells, Nevada, USA. On my easel is the first stage of underpainting, too dark as usual. But the surroundings are angelic...!

Very nice! I fail to see the "too dark" but oh well,

I love looking at the underpainting photographed with the real scene in the backdrop..... very coy!

Re: WOYE (What's On Your Easel) 2019

I'm in "One of those moods". Nothing appears "right". I don't want to see "flat" and most of my "masterpieces" are in the ugly stage.

This is an 11 by 14 where I had started by doing anything associated with The Golden Mean but I did not intend on leaving it to be viewed. I wanted it as an underpainting for something "brilliant" but I forgot I don't do "brilliant", not yet.

I'm watching this Netflix series, Working Moms and I love all the art on their walls but it's all abstract, probably off the shelves of Bed, Bath, and Beyond. So I went back to my modeling paste and my Golden Fluid acrylics..... while it's still wet it kinda appears to be a cake maybe? But when it's drier I'll do the "flat" painting of what's holding the flowers and the reflections- I hope. It's in the microwave so maybe it's safe. Or maybe it's tomorrow's breakfast.

Oh, I still like it. Going to do something before the paste really hardens but I don't hate it.

Here’s my most recent piece. I feel like I may have gotten a bit of my mojo back after a long hiatus. My art has just not been the same since I started on some powerful but necessary meds. This is the first piece that feels good.

Let me know how it can be improved. I call it Harbinger of Fall: Late Summer Sunflower

Judy, that's a great sunflower. The red-and-gold palette looks rich and strong. There's some reflection on the upper left corner that makes it look bluish. It makes me wonder about varying the background to differentiate it from the center of the sunflower. But maybe not. As it is, the piece has a cohesiveness -- to me at least -- that gives it great strength.

Re: WOYE (What's On Your Easel) 2019

I'm going to start selecting the dogs I care for by the ease of recreating their image. Jack Russells are easy! This one is 2 days in, maybe 2 days to go.
6 by 6 inch gallery wrap with Golden Fluid acrylics. I'm really attached to the Golden fluids on small canvases because there is so much pigment in such a tiny bit of paint there isn't much waste. By the way, where are my tubes of lavender and rose? I need those for the collar and I can't find them! They are huge tubes of Liquitex- check under your beds!

All the time spent on this was in the gessoing. I used to prefer the canvas to show thru but now I want a very smooth surface. Even more so on wood when I can sand more.

Sheila with no help at all from the cats!

Thanks! Found the tubes of the pink and the purple. The calico cat was hiding it.

Evil!

The eyes look great, and they always make the painting. Try to feather the edges of the snout a bit to give the appearance of hair?

Re: WOYE (What's On Your Easel) 2019

And (almost) finished. I need to do the sides (1.5 inch) and the varnish. The varnish is going to blow the entire timeline but it took time getting a ref. photo. Friends are moving away on Tuesday. I met them with their spunky Jack mix several years ago. Susie, the Jack Russell mix just fetches a ball all day long- or she barks. They hired me to retrain the barking thing. Now she doesn't bark at me but continues to bark at all others!

She's very, very smooth coated. The only time you would know she had fur is when you wear black (as I always do) and she sits on your lap (as she always does!) Very sweet dog that I would never want to upset because she will seek revenge!
