Today another soundtrack

The movie is brilliant. Animated, but the animation cells were individual oil paintings.

Re: What are you listening to . . . (reprise)

My husband and I picked up some second hand CDs at a local market on the weekend so I've mostly been listening to them. Quite an eclectic mix going on which keeps things interesting.

Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power
Bob Marley & the Wailers - Legend (basically a greatest hits album)
Good Morning Vietnam soundtrack
and saving the best for last...
Pink Floyd - The Piper at the Gates of Dawn

The Piper at the Gates of Dawn is Pink Floyd's first album, when Syd Barrett was still in the picture. The last song, called 'Bike', had us in hysterics. My son writes music and after hearing the lyrics to this song I've had to assure him that the words really just don't matter. Check it out:

I’ve got a bike, you can ride it if you like
It’s got a basket, a bell that rings
And things to make it look good
I’d give it to you if I could, but I borrowed it

You’re the kind of girl that fits in with my world
I’ll give you anything, everything if you want things

I’ve got a cloak it’s a bit of a joke
There’s a tear up the front
It’s red and black, I’ve had it for months
If you think it could look good, then I guess it should

You’re the kind of girl that fits in with my world
I’ll give you anything, everything if you want things

I know a mouse, and he hasn’t got a house
I don’t know why I call him Gerald
He’s getting rather old, but he’s a good mouse

You’re the kind of girl that fits in with my world
I’ll give you anything, everything if you want things

I’ve got a clan of gingerbread men
Here a man, there a man, lots of gingerbread men
Take a couple if you wish. They’re on the dish

You’re the kind of girl that fits in with my world
I’ll give you anything, everything if you want things

I know a room full of musical tunes
Some rhyme, some ching, most of them are clockwork
Let’s go into the other room and make them work

My wife and I had a great time last night seeing her perform live in a brilliant smaller venue. We were sitting mere feet from the stage with a great view of her and her accompanist.

It has been a long time since I enjoyed the vocals of a classical soprano.

Re: What are you listening to . . . (reprise)

Just saw Dicky Betts, of Allman Brothers fame. He wasn't even able to stand. Heroin and alchohol has/had him incapacitated. It was embarrassing and sad.

And at the same gig - The Great South Bay Music Festival - electric Hot Tuna. They were good but sound system was so low that a baby would have hard time hearing it. Aggravating. I won't be going next year.

Very nice Katie. Soothing and meditative.

I guess I'm melodramatic or something but this song popped up on Pandora and has grabbed my brain. It's beautiful and beautifully sung and damn, the singer killed himself.

It is a beautiful song and more poignant when you know that he killed himself.

Re: What are you listening to . . . (reprise)

I have been doing a retrospective of my early 20’s. Never thought I’d be ‘that person’ who listens to the music of their youth, but my dad recently passed and I think it feels comforting. That music was what fueled me as a young adult learning to be on my own. Now that both my parents are gone it feels like a version of that, learning to live without them. Anyhow, it’s pretty much a heavy diet of The Smith’s and The The with some Echo and the Bunnymen mixed in
