So I did try the fg brush on the neck at an earlier stage, but I honestly hate the thing. So I dug through my stash of potential tools and came up with a clay art wire brush. The wires are just fine enough to give a degree of softness to the scratches. I think I like it although it won't be good for tighter areas.

Getting somewhere finally.
