Mystic Mountain

MY IMAGE(S):

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Title: Mystic Mountain
Year Created:
Medium: Oil
Surface: Canvas
Dimension: 18 x 24 ins
Allow digital alterations?: Yes!

MY COMMENTS:
Part of a series of deep sky objects as seen thru my telescope and with a little help from Hubble :D

MY QUESTIONS FOR THE GROUP:
This is a small section of a large nebula and the image from which I worked was selected by NASA to celebrate their 50th anniversary. It would be good if you love it but if not tell me what you recommended.

Re: Mystic Mountain

Great to see you back on the forum. I've considered your deep space images so fabulous as to be the result of witchcraft. With this one, the stars and white gas clouds are spot on but the central cloud appears too solid to me, hence unconvicing. And I find the position of your signature a bit odd and therefore slightly distracting.

Re: Mystic Mountain

gorgeous... I agree about the central cloud... my first thought about the signature was...wow...if that were in scale with the nebula, it would be a very big signature

Re: Mystic Mountain

I really like the subject matter, and the "matter" itself. I find the color palette to be so rich, but not overdone. Just lovely. The red gases, glowing, fire, whatever it is seems so real to me.

Crits - cover your signature with some dark blue glaze. Right now it is a focal point, and very distracting. The brown thing on the middle left - it has a dark bit under it that makes it look like a shadow of the brown thing. This would make no sense in outer space. I would distort the dark bit so it does not follow the shape of the brown thing so closely.

Re: Mystic Mountain

strokes seem like they should be blend a little more fluid since you are painting mainly light and gas.

Re: Mystic Mountain

Thank you BOB and MARY and LA (miss me? I have missed everyone !) and CHAUNCEY. How did I not realise the sig was 5 times too big? Dummy moi! Thank you for spotting it and as it doesn't fly out for Hawaii till it's dry and can indeed glaze with a dark indigo/phthalo blue. Bob you and I know about the witchcraft aspect but I would appreciate if you just kept it between your warlock mates :| I have loved doing this series and so glad it gets your nod. And Mary yes, I am doing all my sigs 15,000 light years across LOL Thanks for your lovely comments. Alison I will reshape that bit of the dreaded 'dark matter' as I agree a shadow in space is almost like a scream! La - fav so far - excellent. But wait till you see the next on LOL Chauncey thanks for your thoughts. Generally you would be right and I do that indeed but this globular but beautiful part of the nebula is pretty lumpy as the body of gases catch the light from the unseen top right source. I am so happy being back - dont let me go away again!
