        Hi

This was posted in April Water media challenge:

Watercolour – Snow Leopard – Panthera Uncia
        Ink
        9 x 15 in

You may wonder about the monk and monastery?

Snow Leopards are listed as endangered since 1972. Their habitat is not only suffering degradation, there is also the constant threat from poachers (skins / furs). In the Sanjiangyuan region (China Qinghai province on Tibetan Plateau) 46% of monasteries are located in snow leopard habitat, of which 90% are within 5 kms. Buddhist monks will not kill and are playing a significant role in conservation of snow leopards, and also patrolling and educating local people who share these remote regions with these “ghosts of the mountains”.

As long as there is light, I will paint it.

This is a beautiuful , atmospheric water colour painting John. It brings the message across so well. Thank you for sharing the background story with us. How sad it is that so many beautiful animals are seriously threatened as is this ‘ghost of the mountains’!

This is really beautiful and thought-provoking. I like the softness of the painting. Well done!

I like the flow of the vanish point from the high peak leading the eyes downward.

                        Beautiful painting John!
Interesting to hear the Buddhist monks are protecting these wonderful animals. So many animals are now endangered, it is so good to hear how some are being protected.
