I think you've done a great job on the wood, Karen! You've got good grain. Toning down the far wall does help the painting overall and draws more attention back to Pogo in the sun. I love your use of blues and greens in his coat!

I can't wait to see your finished piece.

Yeah, the wood looks great, Karen! Just out of curiosity, what is the object behind Pogo - a figure with legs?

Thank you artelahe. Donna, yes that is a figurine. I was going to omit it, but that area would be a bit too light and boring. In the photo the "legs" look a bit prominent, but IRL, it is a vague figure that puts a spot of darkness in that area. It sort of triangulates with the dark in the base of lamp and the dark, shaded area on Pogo. I hope that makes sense. At my age, I sometimes do strange things .
