Orchid (again) in Casein

Here's tonight's efforts - again of the old-trailing-tendril-y orchid.

Potted Orchid in a Turquoise Bowl; casein on board; 5"x8"image on a 8"x10"board

C&C welcome

Re: Orchid (again) in Casein

I was pleased to see you'd posted another casein painting and this one is just as lovely as the first one. Actually, I think I like it better as the flowers are more detailed and there's just enough texture to make it interesting without overwhelming.

The only thing I saw is perhaps a tiny bit more highlight on the stem to lead the eye from the pot, etc. to the bright flowers. When I first opened the post, I couldn't really see the stem but it may just be my monitor. Others may also have a different opinion about it.

But I really, really like this. You have a wonderful style.

I agree with AbA. I really like the detail in the flowers. I didn't see the stem either until I enlarged the image.
Regards,
Greg

Re: Orchid (again) in Casein

Looks like you're really getting the hang of it, just like myself I really like this one.

One thing that I have noticed is that casein is brighter than any other painting medium I have tried, so getting some areas dark enough can be an issue (for someone who's used to oils anyway). So I normally lay down a lot of darks first, before going towards the lights. Having done this, going back and forth a bit between dark and light becomes much easier.

Re: Orchid (again) in Casein

Thanks AbA, Greg and Trond!

Noted about the stem. As it appears in the painting is very close to real life. But I agree, this is one of those instances when "pushing reality" may explain better what's going on. On the other hand, I might want to leave a little mystery there. But I appreciate the feedback and will consider my options - with this painting and with future ones. Thanks again!

-Mary

This is an unusual design but that more effective to my mind's eye. It is a very interesting painting to view. Gary
