Hello! And question on images
Hi folks! I've been hanging out over in acrylics, but I draw too, so thought I would say hi! Here's my most recent drawing:
Kinda (nay, very) silly.
I'm wondering what people who draw in pencil (graphite in my case) find to be the best way to capture the image...do you photograph it, or scan? I've always scanned my smaller drawings, but they sometimes end up looking speckly (see little white specks in image above.) Do you guys photograph yours?
Amazing work over here, by the way! The people on this forum really never cease to amaze me!

Re: Hello! And question on images
I love this drawing. My husband photographs my drawings. Scanning never worked for me.

Re: Hello! And question on images
Hi Melody .. cute drawing.
I use both scanning and photography. Scanners can be troublesome if there is too much of either spectrum - white or dark. Photography is better, but then lighting becomes a problem. I generally work larger than my scanner bed so it is OK for me in the beginning but once I draw more than it can display I go to the camera.

Re: Hello! And question on images
Awww, the kitties are absolutely adorable! Sweet little things!
Anyway, I scan, but that's because my photography skills stink big time. What I'll do when my drawings start exceeding my scanner bed, I don't know. I'll probably have to learn to stitch them together in Photoshop. Oh, yeah, I was going to say, I was getting those white spots on my scans until I unchecked the option to digitally remove "dust" from the scan as well as unchecked the option to sharpen the scan. I don't know if you have those options in your scanning software, but I do, and while they might be nice for documents, they're not exactly the best for graphite. Something you might want to check on.

Always, High Quality, lens-corrected, in-directly lit photography. There is no substitute!

Re: Hello! And question on images
Your drawing is very cute. Has the 'old photograph' feeling.
As for capturing drawings, I'm usually too lazy to use the scanner, so I use photography instead. But I think scanning gives a better result when it comes to deformations (tilting etc.) and lighting (no flare or lighter/darker areas). Probably depends on the quality of the scanner compared to the camera.

That's so adorable! I like to scan things, and while I don't have those auto-correct options to check/un-check like Ariannah does, my software has brightness/contrast sliders. I move them back and forth til an image looks right.
And again: Those kitties are adorable!!

Adorable drawing...! I use both photography and scanner. I prefer the scanner as I can do custom setting t adjust the bright and contrast before its scanned...

Re: Hello! And question on images
Wonderful drawing, Melody! If my drawing is smaller, then I scan it. I have an Epson Artisan 810 which if you learn the correct parameters to put in will do a marvelous scan! But, if the drawing is too large, then I will photograph it, natural light, no flash is best.

It's a really fuzzy sort of drawing for me....the source photo was on an iPhone, so pretty blurry. :S
