Dreams of creating a picture book

My work is up here: https://yvonnekeoghart.blogspot.com/. I'm thinking to write and illustrate and self-publish some kind of picture book - to do it all myself - mainly because I'm totally naive about agents or what it takes to succeed in this business. I'm not sure of the quality that's expected in the publishing world. I'm self-taught - totally lost in the business side of things. Not even sure what medium to illustrate in. I paint a lot these days but I used to draw a lot.

Give it a go!

I made a book of landscape paintings, designed it on the free Scribus software and had it printed by a digital printer at a very economical cost. Here's how.

Any experiences to share? Is it even possible in this internet age where only big corporations have the money to defend it?

Re: Dreams of creating a picture book

When does copyright start? Do I have to register with the government to obtain a copyright?
No. In Canada, copyright protection exists as soon as a work is created, provided that the conditions of Copyright Act have been met.

If you put things on the internet/social media then prepare for them to get shared, if you don't like that idea then don't share them in the first place. If you put them on the internet and someone rips them off and makes money from them, then that's a different matter. Pepe the Frog is a good example.

Re: Dreams of creating a picture book

Your work is copyright as soon as you make it. It is wise to include a copyright statement in your book. Mine was for gifts and personal sales, so I didn't have to go as far as an ISBN number and barcode.
