Post Project Discussion: June/July: Animal Art Project

A new project has been announced in the WetCanvas! project system!

Title: June/July: Animal Art Project
Project Leader: animal
Relative Difficulty: Easy
Type Restrictions: Any Type
Medium: Any Medium
Subject: Wildlife
Days open for signups: Always
Maximum participants allowed: Unlimited

Description:

Using the reference image provided, produce your work of art.

Do show your progress images and tell us what techniques you are using to complete your work. If you like, you can do both images!

You can work in watercolors, oils, pastel, acrylics, or perhaps you want to draw or sculpt. Any medium you choose will be good for us to discuss.

I've started a thread in the Wildlife Forum so we can talk about our progress and share information.

Remember, you are to only use the reference image below.

The object of this project is to work from one reference photograph and for all of us to see how we all accomplish this task and to share our knowledge.

Be sure to post progress pics in the special thread, or inside this project, and be sure to tell us what you are doing and why.

Additional Information:

For more information on the project: Click here!

Remember, in order to help keep the discussions on projects organized, you should post your questions, suggestions, and comments on submitted work here in this thread. By doing this, we allow other non-project efforts to not get "pushed down" by a swarm of project-related threads.

Tigre, you may want to go ahead and upload your progress entries into the studio section of the project.

Sorry, didn't know that i was suppost to do that. Thanks. But do I still post here as well. I'm not sure I understand the system. Any help would be totally welcome. This is the first time that I'm trying a project. On top of all that I've also signed up for another one. So I need to know what is expected of me. Thanks

There's nothing wrong with attaching it in this thread, however, a lot of people just make comments through the project system and may not really look through the entire thread. Lots of times, you will get more comments if you upload your progress entry in the studio section and add your comments about the entry.

Then, if you want to make doubly sure that people see it, you can use the project system to comment on your own piece in the thread.

And of course, you should always upload your final entry. If you have any questions on the project system, the New Users forum should be able to help you out.

In this stage I added some colored pencil to try and save this painting, since I'm not that good at watercolors yet. I uploaded it in the project forum, but wasn't sure so I'm uploading it here. Still new at this. Sorry.

Hi,
I love your progress! I can't paint a lick, but I want to add some kind of color to my background. I am doing the owl picture and am using ink on paper. Any suggestions?

Barred Owls ... Step 1

Well, here's my first step. I wanted to do a wash of some kind, but can't find my water colors ne where. I never use them. Do u think I can add background color later?

So far I have used graphit pencils to do a scetch and get the positioning right.
I can't really seem to see the foot on the sleepy owl...kinda hidden so I'll have to improvise.

Next step is ink. First come the eyes!

Let me know what u think. The paper is cream, not yellow like in the jpg...had to make it really dark to be able to see the lines.

Red face Step 2 - INK ADDED

Well, now I've added the ink and a little color pencil on the eyes.

I have to leave for awhile, so I'll finish the rest tonight. All of my drawings are done in one day or they're not done since I can' t seem to come back to them.

I can't quite make out the tail so I'll have to make one up...any ideas?

I'm not too happy with the branch yet, but maybe when I add some color.

Now I have to do the feathers.... This is the part I don't like since it's a little boring to me ... maybe tedious is the word.

Let me know what u think.

Thanks,
Crystal

I think you have made great progress. And yes you can add background later. I love pen & ink. I usually do the pointellion when I'm working in pen & ink myself.

But you have done a great job please continue and I can't wait to see the final.
