Fresh Water Drum

I tried my hand at the fish carving earlier this year. The fish were carved from Bass wood and the backdrop is a piece of driftwood scavenged from the local lake.

That's really nice ... realistic and tranquil. Good job!

Re: Fresh Water Drum

Thank you for the comment, Ken. WetCanvas is to be much appreciated for giving wood crafters this forum to discuss and display their creations and I hope it draws more participation as time goes along.

Re: Fresh Water Drum

I'm also glad there is such a forum ... over the years I have done a bit of woodworking but there really never was a place here to share it so I would put photos in talk threads here and there. I do hope word spreads about this place because I'm sure there are more woodworkers out there who would like a place to showcase their creations.

I like the idea of inlay and Federal period furniture so I have played around with some things from that period but were it not for this forum, where would I put a photo like this?

Re: Fresh Water Drum

I used to be a member of Knots forum among others but that seemed to disappear some time ago. It would be nice if some of the old members would come here to participate. There is no chance of the management closing this forum as there are so many other forums on this site and it would be a good place for people to congregate, share and view. At least that is my hope ... time will tell ...

Hi John, I checked out your "Photography and Artwork" site and it also was very impressive. You have an exceptional eye for composition and detail and I really enjoyed looking at all of your work.

That uniform ribbon of wood is also impressive Ken.

Thanks kaula ... it's just from running a plane along the edge to even it all out. I used a tablesaw to cut thin stips when I used it for banding. but the ribbon looked interesting so I took a photo ..

I also enjoyed looking through your website, John ... lots of skills there.

Re: Fresh Water Drum

Thank you both for the kind words. I’m sort of a medium jumper and “Jack of Everything”, but “Master of None”. Patience has never been one of my virtues and frustration a lifelong companion. I, like everyone else on these forums really enjoy creating whatever we can.

Re: Fresh Water Drum

Nice concept and especially like the way they are out there in front of the driftwood. I agree about the enjoyment I get from this Forum. Hope to start posting some work soon.
