Welcome to the April Monthly Challenge!
This is a challenge that is open to everyone, every skill level, and every art medium. We’d love to have you join us. The more the merrier! The photos this month are my own which were taken when I was on a trip out to Colorado and Rocky Mountain National Park last summer. I hope you’ll find inspiration to create from them. Use the photos as they are, mix and match compositions, crop the images or add to them.
Comments on one another’s work is encouraged, but please don’t give harsh critique unless the artist has asked for it.
Have fun, and I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with! Happy Creating!
A view just inside an entrance at the Rocky Mountain National Park.
A mule deer that seemed to live right beside a gift shop.
A tree thriving in rocky ground.
Clark’s Nutcracker. Photo was taken at a high altitude, and this lovely bird was very tame, once landing just a couple of feet away.
A bull moose I was lucky enough to see and photograph.
Sprague Lake.
Some kind of wildflowers near Sprague Lake.
Bear Lake.
The hiking trail around Bear lake.
On the drive home, I passed a small part of the Badlands. And a large herd of cattle were grazing nearby. It was nearing sunset. Made for an interesting photo.

April 2, 2018 at 11:39 am #595140Hi
I love the photograph of the sunset and herd on the Badlands. To me they look more like the Goodlands. Wow, a truly beautiful part of this wonderful planet.
I took a few liberties with the image, taking a semi-abstract approach.

Thank you, Kay. I looked up purple asters, and yes, I believe you’re right! Thanks for letting me know as I wasn’t sure. Hope you can paint something this month.
Hi John, and welcome! I absolutely love what you’ve done with this painting! Such a sense of heat and desert. I love the suggestion of the herd, too. Just such a wonderful painting. Excellent work!

April 5, 2018 at 1:54 am #595123I’m trying something else here- ac on collage:angel: The idea is to give a ghostly image of the background. C+c welcome
The trees look slightly dark to me too – comments?

April 5, 2018 at 2:06 am #595141Hi Kay
I love the confidence with which you have painted this picture – not a fiddly piece in sight (something which I admire). The background is also painted in the same manner which gives a superb unity to the entire image.
Hi Christel
This is not only clever, I think it is appropriate to the scene – which is essentially about reflections. I find the double reflection effect very engaging, making me want to explore the image at a distance and really close up. Personally, I like the darkness of the trees – it adds to the mystery. Very powerful image. You should try more of these – I think you are on to something.
As long as there is light, I will paint it.
April 5, 2018 at 9:41 am #595091Thanks everyone!
Christel, I really love this one, so do more! The trees are not too dark. The partially visible text is a nice surprise!!!
