Dewi - yes Tuis are unique to New Zealand - one of our native bird species, shiny black with iridescent green showing through and the distinctive white feathers at their throats.
They are usually only found in NZ's native forests, so its so special to see them in my garden!
Maybe they decided my garden is in such a mess with weeds, that it looks like a forest to them?

They're very unusual aren't they - with the white tufty feathers - distinctive!
I'd never heard of them and one bit I read said they're found mostly on the North Island - so you're doubly favoured Viv!

Viv, I looked up the Tui as well, what a cool bird, I love that little white tufted thing on it's throat. How lovely you're just going into Spring; we're staring into the face of Fall right now, and it's kind of starting to feel like it.
