"Oliver the Pittie"

Hi, all! I'm a newbie both to scratchboard and to this forum. I love looking at all the amazing pieces being produced - such incredible inspiration! Anyway, I just sold my first commission and the woman who bought it loves it, but I'm always to looking to improve [ c&c always appreciated ]

(this is my third piece not on the cardboard bogus stuff)

Have a great day!

Very nice, I keep wondeirng how you are all able to get such results.
Never tried scratchboard myself, but I don't think I'd be able to get such results.
I think I'd get lots of smudges and accidentally scratched parts.

Funny view by the way and love the texture of the nose.

Re: "Oliver the Pittie"

Great technique for a first board (or more!). You got a great range of textures!

If I were to nitpick it looks like you used a photo that had some lens distortion making his head look large and body look small. This is the problem with using a photo sometimes, but knowing it can happen allows you as an artist to correct it by enlarging the body slightly from what the photo shows.

I hope you enjoyed the process and will do more Scratchboard. Your talent in the medium is obvious!

I like your style and love pitties. I agree with Cathy said about photo distortion but it's a great scratch!
