journal suggestion

Hi friends,
I've been keeping a journal for some years now, and it's been the best decision I ever made...
I use A5 notebooks, drawing mainly with pencil, carbon, pen&ink, but occasionally other media like watercolor so I need rather heavy paper.

Now I'm beginning to feel constrained in the A5 format, and wanted to test the B5: do you have some suggestion for good B5 notebooks?
BTW I heard good things about Rhodia/Clairefontaine, but I dont know if they have blank B5s

thanks!

Re: journal suggestion

Stillman & Birn has a large range of journals with different paper in B5 sizes. All of their papers are pretty good, but even the heaviest multimedia paper is poor for watercolor. I also really like the Strathmore watercolor/multimedia journals; they have a 8x10 size which is close to B5. The paper in Strathmore watercolor journals is their 400 serious, which offers a "correct" side for watercolor that is like in between cold press and hot press texture wise. It is passable for watercolor. There is also a smooth, super sized back side which is great for multimedia. Once you learn how to work with that paper it becomes pretty great.

Re: journal suggestion

I'd highly recommend the S&B 8x10 - like the proportions much better than an A4 and the paper is fantastic.

I bought one to take to Cornwall on holiday last week (a Delta - my favourites are the Beta and Delta, lovely heavy paper) and used graphite, ink, watercolour, oil paint and more in it. No bleed through, no buckling.

I chose a softback this time and it opened flat beautifully. I'd always gone for hardbacks previously but think I'm a convert to the softback now!

I haven't been impressed by Strathmore myself

Re: journal suggestion

I find the S&B takes watercolour beautifully

both watercolour in S&B

I hated the moleskine watercolour book as it buckled with wet washes - and I'd wasted my money on the really big one will have to use it just for drawing.
