Re: "Twilight" Work-In-Progress.....

Today's progress... Just more layering and shaping.
I actually bought a 0.3mm mechanical pencil, and I was right... I knew if I ever got one I'd wonder how I ever lived without it! Excellent for fine details as well as dropping off soft layers of graphite after blending certain areas.

Beautiful drawing--I think it can stand alone as it is--it creates such a lovely mood.

Re: "Twilight" Work-In-Progress.....

Thanks for the thoughtful comments, Logie!
And I too can see how it could 'stand on it's own, as is', but in this instance I have studied the reference for some time before drawing it with the sole intention of capturing certain textural elements. One of the main reasons for choosing this particular project was the hair, it has some interesting highlights and presents new challenges that I found intriguing. So, in short, (I know, too late), the very thing that drew me to this subject hasn't even been drawn yet...

Re: "Twilight" Work-In-Progress.....

More progress... I started the hair, still working on it though, refining it. I'll darken some areas while lift graphite off of other areas until I'm satisfied. I just started messing with the right side of her hair (her right), so I'll continue that this evening and tomorrow.
I will continue work on the face as well before starting the shoulder area.

Beautiful work Paul! What pencils did you start off with? For the darks mainly!

Re: "Twilight" Work-In-Progress.....

Thanks so much, Deirdre! I have only used two pencils: 0.5mm 2B mechanical and a 0.3mm HB mechanical. All of the darkest areas are simply 2B layered until opaque, (where necessary).

Ooh! I love the way you've got the highlighted hair above the dark darks - just lovely! Gotta pick up a .3 mechanical and try it myself! Is this one a surprise gift for a certain occasion, or just because?

Re: "Twilight" Work-In-Progress.....

Thanks Tracy and Reinhard, I appreciate the kind comments!

This is a "just because" drawing, and something new to add to my website.

Re: "Twilight" Work-In-Progress.....

Just building the foundation for the hair...I need to continue work on the face before going much further, I kind of neglected it after diving into the hair.
More later...
