Re: shopping market mural - UPDATED 19.11.04

Thanks Lorijo!

Yeah, it's a real fire extinguisher, and it's in a box that sticks out from the wall about 5". It was a white box, and you can see the edges of it around the fire extinguisher, the first dark line is the door to the box, the second dark line is the edge of the box. Outside of that, everything is just painted on the wall.

Thank you! I've almost finished the marble wall, and have started the very last piece of mural which is a river scene with more kids on a dock. Forgot my camera today, so more pics coming next week. Stay tuned. This thing may actually get finished in this lifetime!

Ruth,
Your work is amazing! What a ambitious project! What is it like to have to work on a project for this long? Do you get "burn-out"? How do you keep yourself "fresh"? Love the whole thing!

Thank you! It's been a lot of hard work but also a lot of fun, and I feel like I've made some very good new friends in the process. I told them at the beginning that I would have to take time off every now and then, and they were fine with that. In fact, they encourage me to take off whenever I need to. They really don't want me to finish and leave for good!

Somehow, even when I dread going to work, if I can get myself there and get started, the freshness just comes when I get into it. Also, I get all kinds of encouragement, pats on the back, hugs, compliments, free coffee, etc.

Ruth

Re: shopping market mural - UPDATED 01.10.05

Thank you Jo!

Here's the last piece, the owners' kids on the RiverWalk. I didn't get a picture of a sign that says "Grace Hotel, hot baths 25 cents.

I think I can now officially call it finished. I still want to put some things on it, similar to historical markers, saying "On this spot in 2004, this mural was painted by Ruth Cox of Myrtle Beach, SC" or something of the sort. And we have to put a couple coats of sealer on it.

Hats off to you Ruth .... superb job
What are you going to do with your time now you've finished? Taking a break or have you already got another one lined up?

Re: shopping market mural - UPDATED 02.25.05

Thank you Chris!

I've been teaching an 8-week class on Wednesdays, and the students want to continue with it so we're starting a second 8-week session. Also I'm starting another beginner's class, and possibly yet another beginner's class in another town nearby.

I've got another private home mural job coming up, and several commissioned pieces on canvas.

Thanks to all of you for your kind words and encouragement through all this!

Ruth
