White Out & MI WDE 1-5-2018

I had to take the challenge. Five minutes, pen, handiest paper? That was the little YooFun pocket sketchbook in my actual pocket. It doesn't take washes, being thin drawing paper, but it's just fine for dry media. Choosing the right pen helped, a sepia Pigma Micron that happened to be size 05 but I'd have settled for anything from the sepia set of four.

White Out - Bitter Weather
photo reference by Triduana for 1-5-2018 Weekend Drawing Event
3" x 5" Sepia Pigma Micron size 05 on YooFun pocket sketchbook.

Must remember not to go too close to the edges on that sketchbook though, because it's really hard to photo. It won't lay flat and stay open. It's cool, it's very portable and tiny and easy to forget I have it till I need it.

Also, watch this thread. There will definitely be MI - there are kittens. I did the snow scene first because it hit me that it'd be so cool to do in sepia pen.

I like it too! You've captured the coldness of the scene perfectly in this quick sketch. The title is spot-on too - you can normally see at least 10 miles from that point on the track. It was even worse further along - I took the photo after I'd given up trying to get anywhere and was heading home! Thanks for takng on the challenge. Looking forward to your kitten picture

Re: White Out & MI WDE 1-5-2018

Purr thank you! I think that White Out one was inspired as much by my memory of driving in those conditions as by the reference. One of those moments the reference really woke memory. Everything becomes dirty gray-white and brown, there's always mud that sprays up into the snow. It's all muted colors, could be painted in shades of palette mud from the start.

Chicago was like that too in the worst of it, trippy when you're in the middle of a city and it looks like that except for vague pale-gray shapes that happen to be buildings really close. But it gets lovely on the morning after when the sun comes out and the entire city's white, when traffic hasn't muddied all the new snow yet.

I used to laugh at the phrase "Pure as the Driven Snow" because driven snow is mucky brown and filthy. It's the un-driven snow where the plows haven't gotten yet that looks all pure and lovely.

Here's something warm and comfy after all the cold and wet!

These three little bundles of mischief look like they're up to something. Maybe only putting on the cute to get treats and attention, but I love the one in the back that's winking. She's really up to serious kitten havoc in the next few moments - unless distracted with butter or some other cat treats.

Three Kittens (from 1-5-2018 WDE host Triduana photo by Pencils To Go RIL)
3" x 5" Pigma Micron size 005, white gel pen and watercolor on pocket Moleskine Watercolor.

There might still be some more, I liked that old castle and some of the others. But had to do the kittens immediately!

5 minute sketch came out great. Love your kitties too. A lot of detail for such a tiny drawing.

Your 5 minute sketch is great, how cool that you captured such a wintery feel with pure line. And so quickly! I am in awe of people who can draw so quickly and actually have it look like something.

And of course, the kittens, so cute, so up to something. You captured their sweet little faces so well. Love it!

The sketch works well and the kittens are adorable!

I hope we will have a gallery this month to be able to see alle the kittens next to each other. I like how every single picture is so different, even if most people didn't change the reference much.

Good "cold" winter sketch but as always, you know and feel your kitties. Sweet postures and expressions. Lovely.

Purr thank you! Those kittens were irresistible. Love the little fuzzy things. I've been covered in them at home too lately, as the weather gets colder they like lap snuggles more!

The snow sketch works well. Not so easy to capture the distance, the bleakness and even the cold which I think you have successfully done. The cats are great fun. Definitely trouble brewing there!
