I used to do photogravures and aquatints, but have never heard of aqua gravure.

                This is Aquagravure,

Here a nice example of an Aquagravure

Does anyone have experience with making aquagravures or aqua engravings?

                    New to me!

Funny how “broad” the results are. When I think “gravure” I usually think of the thinnest, finest lines possible!

Maybe they should call it something different, like Shaped Monoprints. . .?

It is not really a monoprint.
Here is an aquagravure from “Corneille” A Belgian artist.
This aquagravure has an edition of 60.

we used to do something like that cutting mats/ mat board and stacking them creating a relief, and then putting them (with a wet sheet of paper of course) and a lot of press blankets, through the press. It was called something else. Yeah, I think it looks nice.

First attempt to make an aquagravure.
Not colored yet. Only the design and the relief into the hand made paper.
                                    Paper size 9,5″ x 8″.

They seem closer to collagraphs to me. Interesting technique though.

to me it seems to incorporate a result similar to embossing but with the addition of paint or ink to add colour. I am more familiar with embossing into soaked/blotted heavy cotton rag using raised relief elements and pressure applied from a press roller. In the video they are using bas-relief that is first molded or sculpted. Not sure what the materials being used are (is it wax? or some type of air dry polymer?)…obviously something firm and that paper pulp will mold over but not adhere to. Is that an oil base paint or ink being brushed onto the raised relief surface?
It looks like paper fiber pulp is cast and put over the bas-relief which is placed under an even pressure.
The result is similar in appearance to a raised relief type collagraph.
Then introduction of hand colouring elements so guess it makes each print unique.
The example you posted of your design into the paper I interpret as a blind embossing. Thanks for sharing examples and You Tube link. A technique I wasn’t aware of.

Indeed, embossing, but not possible with soaked paper.
The relief is too high for soaked paper. I think it is only possible with handmade paper.
Some artists only coloring by hand.
Here some examples of Patrick Guallino.
                                                    http://art.guallino.pagesperso-orange.fr/aquagravures.html
                                                    I think, hand colored.
