Re: Sunflower WIP - Open acrylics - 30x24"

Bluefish ... LOL I knew someone would say that they liked the pink-purple better but I'm convinced that the blue is the better choice. The blue is not as bright as it appears in the photo, more a grayed blue purple. The color of worn denim? But your comment is okay, everyone is entitled to their opinion. :-)

Lovely both versions.
But I also think the purple made the yellows so much deeper and richer.
However you said the photo was not done with dry paint. I'll watch whatever you decide on this after all it's your vision and should make you, happy!

the blue background does bring out the greens, though... in leaves AND seeds...

Re: Sunflower WIP - Open acrylics - 30x24"

Thanks for all your comments ... even among my friends who have viewed it in person the preference between red-violet and blue violet has been split 50/50. ... and even I have wavered a bit ... I'm leaving it as it is. LOL

I like it better. Purple is my favourite colour but I felt my gaze was being pulled away from the focal point.

Re: Sunflower WIP - Open acrylics - 30x24"

For the record, it is a blue-violet. As one friend said, a truer complement of the yellow orange than the red-violet. I already have one person who wants to buy the original, and another who wants a print ... but of course no transaction is complete until I have the money in my hand. :-) I hope to have the prints available by mid-May on Fine Art America.

Re: Sunflower WIP - Open acrylics - 30x24"

congratulations on the 'potential' sale....if this one doesn't materialize, another will...it's a very desirable painting, even with a 'blue' background... ...just kidding you...the painting is fabulous and the prints will sell well!

Great job in those spirals!!! It is IMO a very complex painting and you have done a great job

Striking! It sure is eye-catching, either with blue or purple background. I like the well-defined seeds, makes it 3D-looking.
