Comments always welcome. Just about done with this, thought I would go ahead and "throw it up there for comments."

A lot of folks have painted sun flowers (including me) but this one is superb. What size is it? I hope it's huge! 😉

Re: Sunflower WIP - Open acrylics - 30x24"

Size is 30"x24" ... based loosely on a photo by TwinsMom1243 in the wetcanvas reference library. This is the number: 386338_406299926092582_1592340229_n
Wish I could credit her by name as it was a wonderful photo for my inspiration though I did take some liberties. Thank you all for your comments. This is probably my final painting for an exhibit April 1-30 of my Texas wildflowers at a local hospital. I'll post a photo once the exhibit is installed.

I love the color variation in the developing seeds.

Gorgeous. Personally, I'd like to see the purple in the background more blue. As it is, it's pulling my eyes away from the subject. I'd also love to see this on my wall. The petals are perfect with the orange amd green worked into the yellow so subtely. The seeds are the stars of the show. That pattern and those colours. Wow.

Phranque, thanks for your suggestion. I used a grey blue glaze over one section and I liked it. This will be an easy change to make. Love that acrylics are so forgiving. :-)

Re: Sunflower WIP - Open acrylics - 30x24"

After two coats of Ultramarine blue and zinc white it was a dark blue purple but too dark so I dry-brushed the third coat, a mixture of Ultramarine Blue, toned down with some Burnt Sienna and Titanium white, letting some of the purple to show through. I like it much better but perhaps I should dry-brush a lighter coat of this denim blue color to lighten the color overall. Undecided. The paint wasn't quite dry so the light from my windows caused some glare. The blue isn't as bright as it shows in this photo. I'm waiting for the area on the lower left to dry to even it out.

Re: Sunflower WIP - Open acrylics - 30x24"

IMHO...you should have left the purple....it enhanced the bright yellow without distracting from it....I think the 'chosen blue' is fighting with the yellow for attention'....again, just my observation... the sunflower is stunning.....don't be so quick to make changes to a very attractive painting...take the advice and look at the painting a few days before you make a radical change!....and you may decide the painting is fine just the way it is!....
