It is so generous of you to offer those fabulous tutorials for others to learn… I am not into fur (just a cat from an Ann Kullberg kit years ago), but I thank you for your magnificent gift…

January 7, 2018 at 6:08 pm #540015January 7, 2018 at 11:28 pm #540010I love this jaguar. Saw this down in Animals and Wildlife and it’s incredible. Gorgeous detail and accuracy, plus incredible drama to bring the cat looming out of the darkness that way. It almost reminds me of scratchboard the way he’s there mostly in his highlights against the darkness.
I’ve used colored pencils on Pastelmat before and it’s a wonderful substrate. It takes pencil well and allows a lot of fine detail with its smooth yet grippy surface. It’s a little like painting on the sticky side of tape.
Fine points, the way the spots are distorted by shapes of muscle underneath and give dimension to the jaguar’s face and form. So beautiful. Such natural patterning and perfect, exquisite anatomy and motion. This is a great cat. It could be nothing but a great cat. It’s moving toward me in the way cats do and it was silent in the darkness until I saw it… too fantastic. Love this. Major cat lover.
