August 2019 Challenge

"You Are Painting Your Emotions"

The challenge this month is to tap into our true emotions and then apply that to a painting. This is not so easy to do. Bringing emotion into art has always been a goal for any artist.

This challenge will involve creating an emotional palette and then creating your masterpiece. There have been many studies showing that emotions can be categorized as follows:

1. Happiness

2. Sadness

3. Disgust

4. Fear

5. Surprise

6. Anger

The challenge:

Step 1: Pick 2 emotions from the list above.

Step 2: Explore your vast paint box and pick 4 (and only 4) colors to describe each emotion your have selected. Try untried colors maybe. You will share your palette on the 21st. For example, if you choose Anger and Disgust. You would have 4 colors each for your emotional palette to share on the 21st (this is part 1 of your post on the 21st).

Step 3: Now, create a painting (or two) using only one (or both) of the palettes you have created. And share that on the 21st (part 2 of your post on the 21st).

Advice, your emotions palette will transfer to your painting better when you are in that emotional moment. So watch that movie, hear that music, read that book passage, look at the photo album, remember that thought, watch the news, etc. to stir your emotional creativity and pick those colors to paint! You might be surprised at the results. Questions? Ask me please.

Abstracts, realism, expressionism, tonalism, etc. are all fair game in this challenge.

PLEASE DO NOT UPLOAD WORKS TO THE THREAD BEFORE THE 21ST OF THE MONTH. Much more exciting and fun to see what 'masterpieces' appear! If work is uploaded early it will be moved to a safe place until 21st

At the end of the month the thread /discussion will be closed and a new challenge will begin.

**Please note, the single 'reveal' date is chosen so that we do not influence each other with our individual interpretations ......that's the whole point of it being called 'Different Strokes'!

By all means ask questions in the thread or initiate discussion about the challenge - just don't post images!!!

OK - Lets have some fun!
