Portrait of Duke,German Shepherd, WIP Finished

The first stages of a good friends German Shepherd that passed away a few years ago,I am painting this as a surprise gift.I am using Clairefontaine Pastelmat as i find this quite good for painting the effect of fur,Ishall post more as the painting progresses.

Based on the work I've seen from you so far I can't wait to see how this progresses!! German sheppards are my favorite breed of dog. What a great surprise gift this will be!!!

Duke,German ShepherdWIP,next stages.

Firstly I blocked in the darks with a Schimke black soft pastel,this enabled me to see the structure and form of the face,I then worked from dark to light from browns to light tans using mainly broad strokes at this stage,I will post more soon,cheers Mark.

Nice, an update! Looking very good- strong, confident strokes.....interesting to see that you leave the eyes for later and work in the basic shapes first. I always start with the eyes, I feel that if I get the eyes right the rest of the painting will work. Ready for an update.....
