Hi,

I got a little more of the cheek area and completed the eye area (I think?) Worked about 6 more hours.

Tomorrow I continue on with the face and try to get it done. Hubby will be away for the whole day, so hopefully I can get several uninterrupted hours to work.

I tend to go back and forth all over the areas I have done and am doing, whenever I notice something that doesn't look quite right, I correct it while I'm thinking about it. I sit back several times an hour just to look at the whole picture and give my eyes a break. I think it's good to do that or you lose sight of what you're doing as a whole.

Anyhow, here's what I have done today.

I didn't change that right eye....I don't know why it disappeared. Maybe I should have lightened the contrast a bit. I'll check for that next time.

This is truly inspired work, Lorna. Watching Joseph slowly emerge from the blackness through your artistic skill and talent is almost humbling. You truly have an amazing ability. Cant wait for the next bit.

Hi all,

I got a lot done today...worked about 14 hours. I sure get a lot done when my hubby isn't around! lol

The face is pretty much completed. I will probably do a little more tweaking with the beard after I get the neck area done. It (the beard) looks a little cut off and straight right now. I did scan a couple of times and took a couple of closeups with my camera as I was working. I didn't want to post at the time because I was on a roll and knew I would spend too much time in here if I got on.

Here's what was done today.

A closeup- I enhanced the contrast to show the scratches

(sorry its a wee bit blurry, too much coffee I think)

A bit more done, showing one of the veins in his forehead.

The face completed

Tomorrow I will continue with the neck area and shirt.

Any questions comments or suggestions are welcome.

This is just amazing! I never realized you could get that much detail with scratch board! Can't wait to see the finished piece.

I just absolutely love this subject....are you going to completely do the hat and shirt???? I like the idea of it being not quite so finished as the face could stand alone on it's own merits. I'm quite the detail person and so can appreciate the intricate relationship you have with this portrait...nice WIP!

Thankyou Apryl and Dyin.

Dyin....I do intend to do the hat and shirt, but in a lower key so as not to distract from the face. There is a little light that will go on the hat and only a very little to go on the shirt, so I think (hope)it will balance out.

I have never met this chap, but feel like I know him very well, every nook and cranny of his face, at least.

Apryl.....you can get as much or as little detail as you want with the scratch process. I just happen to love detail. (sometimes too much and get carried away with it!)

I got a bit more done today. Worked kinda all over the neck/shirt/ear area. Still needs to be refined, but it's coming.

I'll have more later tonight or tomorrow.

Lorna,

This has got to go into the hall of fame!!! You have got to possess the patience of a saint, a nun, a monk, a budha.... and anyone else who holds to their purpose so devoutly. Wow - Wow - can't say enough how magnificent it is.

Lovely

Barb

Hi all,

Thanks Dyin. That's soo nice of you to say bnoonan, thankyou and welcome aboard maneh!

Here are a couple more updates;

On the above, I worked a bit more on the neck and shirt and below, I have pretty much completed the neck and shirt area and started on the hat.

More tomorrow. All totalled I have about 70 hours into this so far.

Have you gone back in and added some of that India ink? My monitor is showing a little sepia tone to it...
