Yeah, sorry about that Jon, I’d got quite a lot done before I decided to photograph it.

DerekThanks Derek ol’ bud.
The composition wasn’t intentional. I have this antique brass dish that has a lovely patina and has ‘pocket change’ written on it, on my desk, and invariably it gets filled with whatever happens to be in my pockets and whatever drawing implements I happen to be using. So, I was painting something else a few days ago, looked down, and this was what I saw on my desk and thought to myself ‘Hmmmm, that’d make a pretty good still life!’. So i took a photo to capture the scene and that’s what I’m painting it from now.It wasn’t until later that I noticed a deeper meaning that people could possibly imply from it, something to do with artists usually being poor. :clear:
Anyhow, got a little bit more done today. It’s slow going, but I like that, the last two paintings I did ( https://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1455121 & https://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1455119 ) were a bit too quick for my liking, I prefer to take my time and get lost in the process, it keeps me busy and out of trouble.
October 8, 2018 at 11:38 pm #708484Your painting has inspired me to paint the loose change, stray cough drops and random screws my father always carried in his pockets. There was always a wonderful assortment of items in there. He’s battling cancer right now. Hearing him jingle the loose change in his pockets is a very fond childhood memory. Thank you for the inspiration!
October 10, 2018 at 10:19 am #708466Dave, this is inspirational and very clever assortment of objects, for sure masculine. I gave my hubby one of those pocket change brass dishes/saucer when we married and his change, golf tees, and etcetera always spilled out. Love this!

Good for you!
I have a similar catch all dish, but my change looks a little different than yours.October 14, 2018 at 11:03 am #708485Great rendering! Love the subject. Not so much what you paint, but how it’s painted.

Thanks Derek.
Hmmm, it’s kinda like the age old question of how long is a piece of string. It looks close to finished, but I could probably keep this painting on the go for ages yet just by constantly tweaking it.
Once the final coin is done I’m thinking of improving the wood grain of the desk, just in the foreground to give it more depth.
October 16, 2018 at 7:46 am #708474The photo before the last photo seems to have more color saturation….richer?

Yeah, that one was taken at night under electric light. The last photo is probably closer to it’s actual colour.
