Uncle Dan - Ice Fisherman
I don't do portraits too often but the other day while on a photo drive I happened to get one of those happy accidents! We had stopped at an iced over lake and met some ice boaters. While panning across the lake to take a photo of one of the ice boats I accidently caught a great shot of my uncle looking off into the distance. Happy accident! I incorporated a few things to further tell a bit of a story, as it is he really enjoys ice fishing thus...
Photo reference
pastel image, about 14" X 18". This one is pretty much hot off the easel, so I may go back over with some touch ups. C&C welcome and appreciated.

You have done a great job here, Marcus! My only tiny thought is to grey off that distant yellow as it is a bit distracting.

Really nice! The additions of story and color add a lot. Bethany is spot on about the distant grass.
You may add more cools (gray) into the yellowish area just below the bottom lip- it will help his beard look clean. Overall, the bright winter light has been lessened with a lower range of contrast mostly in the lights- is this intentional?

Re: Uncle Dan - Ice Fisherman
Thanks for the nice comments and suggestions. I incorporated your suggestions into this update. Yes Ken, on very bright days especially surrounded by snow or ice, brights become somewhat muted in detail. Something to do with my eyes. I usually am squinting pretty hard to see and the next thing I know, I am asleep!

Re: Uncle Dan - Ice Fisherman
Thanx Jackie, Prashant, Carol, Nicki, Donna and Mary for the nice comments and encouraging words, truly appreciated.
"Live and in person" I like that. Neither of us really saw this photo being taken and it really was luck to catch a pose in an unstaged look. I don't know about doing a lot of portraits, I think I just got lucky this time!
