Re: Pencils You May Have Never Seen

No need for panic about Aquarelliths. The colour range...

https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....UL._SX355_.jpg

...indeed matches Aqua Monoliths:

I'm waiting for a Koh-i-noor Progresso 48 set as well as a KIN Gioconda 48 set... Looks like Staedtler Ergosofts are now available in a tin of 36... Damn, I may have to wait until May because right now my wallet looks quite empty...

Re: Pencils You May Have Never Seen

A Faber-Castell lower middle class 72 colour set just came up. Very probably a very good set for kids.

Yes the sets in red boxes are for children. Great that they have them with 72 colours!

Re: Pencils You May Have Never Seen

This 60 set would be nice too as it is in a tin.

Times have changed from the sixties when the best set a schoolboy could buy was a Caran d'Ache Prismalo 40 colour tin.

I have no idea, but it might also be paper glue.

Thanks, Linda!

Whitman from 1960s:

This Colleen may be real vintage or just retro:

These vintage Empire Pedigrees look like they aren't full-length:

...as well as these Kresge Colortones:

Vintage things - I remember those Crayolas and they were worth nothing when compared with Caran d'Ache Neocolors:

Pedigree from early 1960s:

Czech Colorama from Koh-i-noor:

Derwent was supposedly the first to expand its colour range to 72 colours:

I just googled '1960s color pencils'...

Heikki,
Have you seen these? Faber-Castell AD watercolor pencils, but in a giant core size for faster coverage of things like background

Re: Pencils You May Have Never Seen

In fact Gerda was awake and wrote a review:

http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/show....php?t=1424000

I'm waiting for a larger set as I can't imagine myself trying to paint a landscape background (that's where I'd use them) without violet and dull dark green.

Re: Pencils You May Have Never Seen

Only now do I remember that in late 1980s there were Faber-Castell Albrecht Dürer leads for clutch pencils, 5.6 mm in diameter, similar to these (a screen grab as the link doesn't seem to work properly):

The colours were the same as in pencils: 101 White, 105 Lemon cadmium, 107 Lemon, 108 Canary yellow, 113 Light orange, 115 Dark orange, 121 Light geranium red, 124 Rose carmine, 126 Dark carmine, 144 Light cobalt blue, 147 Light blue, 148 True blue, 151 Prussian blue, 155 Night green, 167 Sap green, 168 Moss green, 170 Apple green, 175 Dark sepia, 176 Van Dyke brown, 183 Gold ochre, 187 Burnt ochre, 190 Venetian red, 191 Pompeian red, 199 Black.

No violet, no bright green! I'm lucky enough to have one of each (except white and black) and their pigments may not be identical with the pencils of that time as there are some differences.

Koh-i-noor Hardtmuth has similar sets (Mondeluz water-solubles and Polycolor non-solubles) although with 3.8 mm leads:

http://coloredpencilinfo.com/documents/69.html - along with a now discontinued Caran d'Ache Museum 18 color set

Re: Pencils You May Have Never Seen

I asked Faber-Castell if this set

https://www.sjtoyszone.com.au/media/...-sharpener.jpg

is available in Europe. Not yet, said FC, but should be in 2018. Right now these are the most luxurious "red line" sets in Europe:

https://www.faber-castell.de/produkt...ssoires/112448 (sorry, in German)

https://www.stonemarketing.com/image...encils-web.jpg

Waiting...
