painting by H Clout

hello all, I have just joined this site to inquire about a painting I own of the H.M.S Victory entering Portsmouth harbour. It is signed H Clout and I would like to find out some more about it and the artist. I have searched the web and cannot find any mention of H clout so I can only assume he was a local artist and only sold a few paintings locally. If anyone has any information on the painting or the artist I would be most grateful. You can reply on this forum or e mail me on [email protected]

Re: painting by H Clout

Do you have the actual original oil painting? If it's the one I have a print of then it shows Portsmouth Harbour at night around the end of the eighteenth century. It is signed H Clout 72. I know that I bought it ready framed in the early 1970s from a local art gallery in Southsea. It is made up of lots blues and is a very calming picture - I have it in my bedroom.
I don't have any more information since I too have tried to find out about the artist, but there appears to be nothing on the Internet. It's just nice to know that someone else has the same taste in art appreciation.
