May 26, 2018 at 9:56 pm #628451Welcome to the pastel forum! Pastels are perfect for painting animals. This maybe your first pastel, but it’s apparent you have an art background. You’ve adapted well. Would you mind sharing the paper you used and the size of your painting???

David, First time poster in this section of the site.
Decided to give soft pastel a try as I was avoiding doing any of my normal art work medias due to arthritis. The size of the pastels, not having to do too much fine details and using pressure like in CP is what attracted me.
Picked this scene to try for my first one to see how this media would go for backgrounds and detail.
I had concerns about how I would do the fur, water and splash before I started.
Paper: Mi-Teintes TEX Pastel Card 355gsm

June 5, 2018 at 3:22 pm #628452This is a wonderful painting, very believable! Your rendering of his fur and the water splashing is fantastic. I also love the buttery yellow/orange and blue of the back ground. All together, great work!
