Gone to Heaven WIP Need Help

I'm working on a special project for our nephew who recently lost his dog of 12 years. My idea is to paint one in the grass slightly faded and one in the heart-shaped cloud. I have a long, long way to go so this is a very rough WIP.

My dilemma is scale: I realize that the tree and dog are not in proportion and, short of repainting the scene, am at a loss of how to fix. I suspect I'll need to just start the dog over but worry about not being able to cover adequately the area blocked for the dog.

I am in serious need of help.....feel free to be brutal

Thanks

NanJo

For the dog to match the scale of the tree, you would have to make the dog way too small - and the dog is the subject of the painting.

Better imo to keep the dog the same size and make the tree bigger. Something along the lines of this:

I think Bongo’s advice works - there’s much to like here and your nephew will treasure it when it’s finished. My thinking is that the dog - even faded - needs a face. Eyes...crease of a mouth...Not necessarily in full detail, but enough to allow the eye and brain to complete the image.

Bongo's solution is a good one. Here's another solution that requires painting out a bit of the tree trunk base to move it back and make the trunk a bit narrower, which makes it look farther away and more in scale to the dog. So you have some options. It's a very thoughtful painting. Love the flowers.

Thanks...I've just blocked the dog in---lots and lots of work to do there...but I realized the scale was so far off that I hadn't started any of the details yet

Thank you---that's a great idea as well. Thank you on the flowers, and the concept of the painting.
